This weekend was awesome. One of my best friends from high school visited me. It was really fun and great seeing her. Ingrid will be in Germany (Munich to be exact) until this August, so this was the last time I would see her until then. Scary thought.
Well, she got into Madrid at 9:45 Thursday night. I took her to her hostel then we went to my apartment so we could get ready to go out that night. We headed to Moma later that evening so I could introduce her to all my friends. We returned to our various living spaces early the next day (late that night?) and agreed to meet up around 5 on Friday. I met her at her hostel and we walked around that neighborhood, seeing the city in Christmas festivities. The weather is cooling down, making jackets necessary, finally. We walked around until about 9, when we got dinner at a tapas restaurant and got flowers bought for us by Spanish men.
The next day, we met up around 12 and went to the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen Museums. Ingrid enjoyed seeing them and we continued around the area, getting lunch at a Thai food restaurant. There was a protest on Paseo del Prado about father's rights in the recently (for about the past 25 years) allowed divorce proceedings. Suddenly having protests allowed in formerly fascist Spain is causing a lot of the people to take advantage. The streets were filled with men, women and children waving flags holding signs and fighting for their rights.
One thing I will not miss in Spain - forward men. While eating lunch with Ingrid, three men came up to the window and pretended to read the menu. We thought nothing of it until they pulled out a camera to take pictures "with" us. I turned to our waiter and said, this is illegal. Please do something about it. He did not speak very much Spanish (he was from Thailand) and did not understand what I wanted him to do until they walked away with our picture. If someone knows what they were going to do with that picture, please inform me? Or do I really want to know?

That night, we reconvened later to meet up at cave bar then head to a hip hop show in the basement of a local bar. The scene was mostly permanent students and a lot of fun. Ingrid left early to make it to her hostel before the metro closed and make her 9:00 am flight the next morning. I stayed out for a little while longer with some friends and returned to one's apartment to make pasta. Which was delicious.
